As I sit here on my couch, trying to write down my thoughts on happiness, I can’t help but think that almost everything we do, all our actions and intentions are somehow related to our pursuit of finding happiness.
So I want to ask each of my beautiful readers who somehow end up on this blog:
Do you consider yourself a happy person?
If I asked this question to a room full of people, a lot of us would hesitate saying ‘yes’. The truth is, a lot of us think we’re not happy until THAT BIG THING or THAT LIFE EVENT finally happens to us. We say to ourselves things like:
I’ll be happy when I finally get that promotion or that big deal gets finalized…
I’ll be finally happy when I meet the one…
I’ll be happy when I have the ideal body or when I love x kgs…
I’ll be happy when we finally buy the big house…
and so on…
Well, What exactly is Happiness?
WHEN are you ‘being happy’?
Being happy is a feeling you experience in this very moment, right now!
Happiness is then just a choice!
You beautiful, yes you, can choose to be happy right now. Happiness is now! Not tomorrow, not next week, not next year but in the moment, now and in the moments you experience as you go through your day today and every day going forward.
But do you know another trick to being a consistently happy person?
It’s a trick I have discovered myself over the years of striving to change my happiness levels. And I would love to share that with you.
The trick is to be just a little-bit-happier than you were, yesterday.
“And How do I be just a little bit happier?” I hear you ask.
Well, make a list!
Yes, that’s really it. That’s how I started all those years ago. Make a list of all the things that make you happy or have made you happy in the past. It could be something as small as calling that friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, saying “good morning” to a complete stranger on your way to work every morning, playing with your dog, cuddles with a loved one, getting down on your yoga mat, anything!
Once you have this list, MAKE TIME TO DO IT…. once a day or many times a day. Do them often. Do them every-time you feel down and are need for a pick-me-up.
I’m sure if you get in the habit to do this, it will become second nature and You will start to be happier than you were yesterday.
So, get a pen/paper and start making that list NOW! 😉
Until next time.
